What would
a sales call be without a bit of personal chat? Here's your chance to
get to know the travel industry's cyber-sales rep!
Why We're Here
Life
is made of choices and clearly, if you are reading this, there's a
pretty good chance you chose to help people travel as your career.
While the travel biz is full of jostling about and constant change,
there is just something really neat about waking up each day knowing
that you'll be selling palm trees and relaxation or some far away world
that is chock full of adventure.
As petroleum's
part in our life continues to echo through every aspect of our North
American economy, it's easy to think of travel, leisure in particular,
as being nothing more than a superfluous extra that today's over
stressed, up-tight world neither wants nor needs. I mean come on,
look at the stats. The majority of Americans now prefer a 3-night
vacation over the 7-night option because they are so stressed by just
the thought of email backlog. Predicated on that driving force,
why not just stay at work and never take a break, right?
Herein lies the
reason we travel folk are here. You're not in the business of
selling hotels, cruises and airline tickets. You're in the
business of selling dreams, sanity and balance. You may be the one
person in your client's life who tells them to take time to breath in,
breath out and move on. You are so much more important to people's
lives than they (or maybe even you) may realize.
You're also a key
component to work, too. Sound odd for play to be important to work?
It shouldn't since it is the person who stays in balance between work
and play is far more productive than their beleaguered colleague.
So the next time
you wander into your office wondering if you're really loved and wanted,
just remember that you are there to put the smiles back on people's
faces. Hey, don't forget, even God took day number 7 as a
vacation day!
Cheers!
